Butterfly Start |

The butterfly start is fairly straightforward but, as with all components of a race, it is important. The performance the start could mean the difference between first and last place. |
| The Start. The butterfly start is identical to other starts until after the entry. For the butterfly start, many swimmers like to dive a bit deeper in order to maximize the benefits of an underwater dolphin kick--which can be extremely fast for some swimmers.
